The Land of Nod

As my eyelids get heavy, and begin to close,

I drift off to a land that nobody knows.

Floating on a cloud that is fluffy and white,

The moon gets nearer, bigger and bright.

I grab hold of a star that is sparkling gold,

It twists and it turns leaving a trail so bold.

It loops the loop until I am feeling dizzy,

I drop into a pool that is bubbling and fizzy.

My teeth feel wobbly and start to fall out,

I scream for help but no sound will come out.

I recognise people, who have blurred faces,

As I swing from vines made of strawberry laces.

With my arms out wide, I fly high in the air,

Speeding over cities, without the trace of a care.

I see glittering waves on a deep navy sea,

As the salty air gently swallows me.

I look down at my body, it has turned into dough,

I pull it and stretch it, kneading to and fro.

A crowd of people stand before me and stare,

It’s only then that I realise my body is bare.

Footsteps in an alley come closer to me,

I run for my life, praying to be free.

The faster I go, the quicker they run,

I thought all this dreaming was supposed to be fun?

The land of nod is a wondrous place,

Terrifying, exciting or as soft as lace.

I fall through the air, the ground zooming nearer,

I wake with a start, no longer a dreamer.
